lang-lang-main-street.jpg

Our Local History Librarian oversees local history resources for the library service and maintains the Local History Archive at Cranbourne Library, supports local Heritage Groups and works with Councils to promote and preserve our history.

Local History enquiries are temporarily unavailable.

Archival materials

There are a range of published and unpublished documents, images and books kept in the Local History Archive at Cranbourne Library. These items record the history of the entire Casey Cardinia region, including past councils, people, places, organisations and groups.

Historic Rate and Minute Books

Connected Libraries offers patrons access to the rate and minute book records generated by the former Shires of Cranbourne, Berwick and Pakenham. This was a project between the Cardinia Shire, the City of Casey and Connected Libraries.

Rates available are:
Berwick Shire Rates: 1875 to 1965
Cranbourne Shire Rates: 1863 to 1950

Historic Newspapers

There are a number of local newspapers that cover our local area which have been in publication for many years.

To find historic issues of these and other titles, which are available online, visit Trove – the National Library Archive.
