Children’s Book Week, presented by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), is one of the most anticipated celebrations on the library calendar, bringing stories, imagination and reading to life for children and families across the country.
This year, we’re celebrating Book Week from Saturday 22 August to Friday 28 August, with a fantastic lineup of events, activities and special programs inspired by the 2026 theme, Symphony of Stories, including our annual Book Week Dress Up Competition!
Each year the CBCA chooses books written by Australian authors and illustrators to go into the running for the Book of the Year across 6 categories.
The winning books will be announced on Friday 21 August.
Show us your best Book Week costume and enter our costume competition to be in with the chance to win one of three book packs!
Please note that guardian or entrant must be a library member. You can join the library online.

Join author Stef for an engaging and interactive author talk featuring a reading from one of her published books, the award-winning A Home for Luna.
Through lively discussion about characters, themes, and key story moments, students will discover how their own experiences can inspire creative writing.
The session also includes a fun “Five Senses” story seed workshop, making it an entertaining experience for all.
