Membership is FREE and open to everyone, no matter where you live. You can join by visiting any one of our libraries and showing some identification.

You also need to accept the Conditions of Membership and Code of Conduct. Members under 18 years of age need a parent or guarantor to show ID and accept the conditions on their behalf.

Members of Libraries Victoria libraries can use their existing card to borrow at our libraries.

Online membership
Join online and get immediate access to Connected Libraries’ online resources.  With your WEB membership number you can place holds on library items and borrow up to 5 items.

For full access to our resources, you will need to change your membership to a library card.  This can only be done at the library and if you are under 18 you will need to have a parent/guardian with you.

Note: You can’t join online if you already have a membership.  Please contact us if you have any problems with joining or using your existing membership.  

Organisational Membership
This type of membership is available to organisations such as preschools, primary schools, secondary schools, and childcare centres. Organisational-membership form.

Lost card
A lost library card should be reported as soon as possible to your library, to stop it from being used by someone else. To replace your library card, pop into the library with proof of ID. It will only take a couple of minutes.

Renew your membership
Our library membership cards expire automatically every three years: this allows us to make sure we have up-to-date contact details for you.

To continue your library membership, please visit your library with your library card. If you have changed address, please bring along your ID so we can update your details. Alternatively, contact us on 1800 577 548.

Change your personal information 
If you move address or change your contact details you can edit your personal information directly.

Log into the My Account link on the library catalogue and click on the personal information tab, then choose edit to update your information.

Don’t forget to save to keep your changes.

Borrowing is only possible with a library card or suitable ID.  Your library card provides access to:

4 week loans 

Books
Talking books
Kits
CD-ROMs

2 week loans

Unlimited magazines
Unlimited DVDs
20 Music CDs

In total, a member can have a maximum of 200 physical items on loan at any one time

With your library card or Web membership:

Ebooks/Eaudiobooks/Emagazines

10 e-books and 10 e-audiobooks from Borrowbox

15 e-books and/or e-audiobooks and unlimited magazines from Libby (Overdrive)

Streaming

Videos – 10 plays per month from Kanopy.

Online Resources

Many more online resources including newspapers, children’s activities, language learning, online learning and tutoring.

Renewals

Most items can be renewed twice, unless they are on hold for another borrower, or are too far overdue. Top Titles cannot be renewed.  Renewals can be done in person, by phone, or online via the catalogue or library app – login in with your library card and password.

If items are not returned or renewed by the end of day on their due date, our system will automatically renew them for another loan period, unless they are required for another member or they have reached the renewal limit.

It’s important to return your items on time so that other members are able to enjoy them.

If you have an email address on your membership, we send courtesy reminders before the due date.

If you have overdue items your borrowing rights will be restricted and where an item is lost or not returned, you will be billed for the replacement cost.

As a member of Connected Libraries you can borrow items from any of our branches. We also have external return chutes at each branch, which are open 24/7.

If you have loans from a library that is part of the Libraries Victoria Consortium, you can return them at our libraries.  

You can access your borrowing history of the items you have returned previously.  This history is retained for approximately three years.

If an item you want is not available at your library, you can place a hold on it.

This is a system request to have a copy of that item sent to your local library for you, when a copy is available.  Holds can be placed on most CL items and those belonging to other library services in our catalogue.

Popular items will have many holds, so you will not get them quickly, but for all holds we notify you when they arrive for you to collect.

You can be notified by email, SMS, telephone or mail – contact your library to organise your preferred option.  Items are held for 8 days from the time they arrive for you at the library.

Each membership can have a maximum of 30 holds at any one time.  

To place a hold

Go to the library catalogue
Click on Login at top right and login with your library card and password
Search for items in the catalogue
When you find an item, check to see where it is
If it is not available at your library or all copies are on loan, click the Place Hold button to the right
In the pop up box, change the pickup library if required and then click Place Hold
Click OK to acknowledge the hold has been placed
You will be notified when the item is ready for you to collect from your library

When you are notified holds are ready, you can collect them from the pickup library hold shelves.
