Children's Book Week 2025

Children’s Book Week is The CBCA’s (Children’s Book Council Australia) is a key highlight national event of the year.
This year we are celebrating book week at the library from Saturday 9 August to Saturday 23 August.

The 2025 theme is Book an Adventure and we have a range of events and programs happening throughout the two week as well as our annual Book Week Dress Up Competition!

Children’s Book Council of Australia- Book of the Year

Each year the CBCA chooses books written by Australian authors and illustrators to go into the running for the Book of the Year across 6 categories.

The winning books will be announced on Friday 15 August.

Children’s Book Week Dress Up Competition

Competition opens Saturday 16 August at 9am
Competition closes Saturday 23 August at 5pm

Meet the author and Illustrator: Heidi McKinnon

Heidi McKinnon is a children’s book author and illustrator from Melbourne.

Heidi’s books have been published around the world and have received numerous award nominations.

Kids will get to join Heidi as she chats about how she creates her characters and guides them with some simple drawing tips to give characters different emotions.

Meet the author and Illustrator: Lucinda Gifford

Lucinda works as a children’s illustrator and author from her colourful, ink-splattered home studio. She loves to draw and especially enjoys improvised sketching with groups of children because – through the chaos – wonderful things can emerge.

This is a lively presentation, where Lucinda will share her creative secrets, give valuable drawing tips and draw a wacky drawing for the audience.
