Digital Memory Stations

Preserve your personal and family photos, videos and other memories using our new Digital Memory Stations at Cranbourne Library.
This is a free service for library members.

Bookings are essential and you must attend an induction session before using the Digital Memory Stations.

You can digitise:
– Documents (including booklets, up to A3 size)
– Photos
– Negatives
– Slides
– VHS tapes
– Audio cassette tapes
And access files from DVD/CDs and floppy disks.

Step 1: Complete Induction

You must attend an induction session to learn how to use the equipment before using the Digital Memory Stations.

Click the button below to book your induction or call 1800 577 548.

Step 2: Book the Digital Memory Station

Once you have attended an induction, you can book a time to use the Digital Memory Stations using the button below. If you haven’t attended an induction, please do so before booking a time on the Digital Memory Stations.

Bookings open 4 weeks in advance. You can book for a maximum of 2 hours on weekdays, between the hours of 10am and 7pm.

Please ensure you bring the following:
– Your library membership details. If you don’t know these, please ask staff for help.
– A USB drive. If you forget, you can purchase one at the front desk.
– Headphones (3.5mm jack), if you plan to digitise VHS or audio tapes.

If you are not yet confident using the equipment, we recommend bringing someone along to help you. Staff will be available to help with basic troubleshooting only.

Please note:
– When using the Digital Memory Stations, you must abide by the Digital Memory Station Terms of Use (see below).

– It is your responsibility to ensure that you have appropriate copyright approval to digitise your items. Visit the Australian Copyright Council for fact sheets and information.

– If your items are fragile, you may be more comfortable seeking professional digitisation services. This might also be appropriate if you have a large volume of items to scan.

Flatbed Scanner: Use to scan up to A4 sized documents, photographs, negatives and slides.

VCR Machine: Use to digitise VHS tapes.

Cassette to MP3 Player: Use to digitise audio cassettes.

Floppy Disk/CD-ROM Drives: Use to access files on floppy drives.

Overhead Scanner: Use to scan up to A3 sized documents, photographs and bound materials.

Guidelines to use this equipment will be provided at the Digital Memory Stations. You can also access these instructions online.

Please note: This is a general guide and does not include time needed to prepare for digitising. It may also take you longer to digitise items, so we recommend booking a longer session to allow extra time.

Connected Libraries has a Local History Archive which preserves the social and community history of the City of Casey and its predecessors. We are always interested in accepting donations of items that feature locations, communities or events from our region.

If you would like to donate a digital copy of any suitable items, please fill out our Local History Archive Donation Form. Physical copies of these forms will be available at the Digital Memory Stations.

This is optional and not a requirement of using the Digital Memory Stations.

Please note: We are only able to accept donations that meet our collection requirements.

– Patrons must be a current Libraries Victoria library member to use the Digital Memory Station.

– Patrons must attend an induction session before using the Digital Memory Station.

– Connected Libraries does not take any responsibility for any loss or damage to personal property that may occur using these stations. If items are fragile or precious, patrons may prefer to take these to a professional digitisation service.

– No borrowable library materials are to be scanned using this equipment. This equipment is reserved for digitising personal historical items.

– The Digital Memory Station is designed to be a self-serve service. Staff are not available to provide specialised advice or digitise items for patrons but are available for general assistance. If you are not confident using the stations, please consider bringing another person along who can help you.

– Patrons must provide their own external storage device (USB device). USB devices are available for purchase from Connected Libraries.
